"Because there is always a crisis somewhere, with someone."
Me in D.U.M.B.O., photography by a tourist with my camera.
September found me wandering around Manhattan with a photography client, at a photography expo in Hudson Yards, and a personal trip to DUMBO to see what that was all about. Doing homework in a hotel makes a good change - and it made me feel more focused. Knowing I only had a few hours each night to work on school was the nice boost I needed.
Being in NYC reminded me of when I wanted to work there in a public relations agency. When I was younger, there wasn't social media or the internet. We had to wait for press releases and magazine articles to find out what the latest trends were, what celebrities were wearing, and what the beauty industry was going to do next. I feel old just typing that.
But it goes to show me how far I have come.
Street Style Photography, New York, by Tina Ortiz, September 2023.
I've always been a photographer who wanted more out of my career. Choosing to go back to school was challenging enough. I want to graduate with good grades and really have learned a lot. Without sounding like an ad for Full Sail University, I think I have done more [for my career] in 9 months, than I have been able to do on my own in 15 years.
The digital world moves so quickly, (ask my phone provider if you don't believe me) that we have to learn quickly. I have seen some of my courses work applied in the real world within days of learning it. Not just because of target marketing either - but because of what my clients and I have to do to compete.

This course, "Specialized Internet Public Relations," has been my favorite course so far. I know I have said that before. This month I felt like I did more research in one week for one project, like I will be in the real world. I kept doing more research than necessary, because the subject matter was so interesting.
I feel very prepared for creating press releases, approaching clients with a public relations plan, as well as how to execute and monitor the results.
My mini goal is to help a client in Tampa this month. I have several clients who will be planning end of the year sales and projects. I think a press release will help them go above and beyond the competition.
September is almost over and this puts me in the home stretch of my degree. Sometimes, this makes me take the foot off the gas, because I think I have it completed already (in my mind.) But this month, the content and resources were very enjoyable. I was actually reading some of the books in my leisure time as well.
I can't wait to see the next public relations crisis in the press. I will use my skills and analyze it and see if I can reach out to them.
